Inmate Entrepreneurial Development

Supporting Incarcerated Individuals

Traditionally, people with challenges remain un- or under-employed because of the lack of job openings for which they are well-suited. Entrepreneurship overcomes obstacles for such groups by providing opportunities to do what they love. For inmates especially, launching an enterprise can offer a way to deal with those obstacles.

“I wanted to share that some of these participants have come to program sessions and shared their positive experiences with this program and seem genuinely excited about their projects and futures. Some of the men which have shared their experiences with their institutional program group include offenders that have been incarcerated for a considerable amount of time and experience impacts of institutionalization including low motivation and a lack of positive self image and confidence. It has been positive to see a sense of pride and accomplishment instilled in the men and seems to boost their motivation in the programs I facilitate. The potential to contribute to breaking harmful cycles should not be overlooked or understated. The impact of instilling pride and confidence will spread to families, communities, and future generations.”
